J-Rock in K-pop

For a long time now it has been an argument that Korea stole Japan's entertainment ideas and made it their own and vice versa. This is not to say I agree with any side because I don't have all the facts to make a definitive judgement so it's not my place to say. What I will talk about is the follow MV by Kim Jaejoong. Last time I followed DBSK was when they made Purple Line and when they went through that lawsuit.

Now to summarize the lawsuit in a few sentences. Three members of DBSK decided that their contract was way too long and unfair and decided to sue. They left the group and called themselves JYJ. Meanwhile their company SM entertainment fought back and put an invisible pressure not to promote JYJ. It ended with some law changes and JYJ not getting anything but SM Entertainment would stop blocking them from promoting. Since then JYJ has made several tours around Asian and many free concerts to the US.

Anyways so that describes their situation. Now Jaejoong, free of SM Entertainment factory idol making decides this would be the time to create something that he enjoyed expressing as an artist. And he came up with this song. I will say such j-rock expression in this. If not for the Korean lyrics I would have thought that this was a j-rock music video. He does the genre justice and conveys his emotions with such passion. As for the music video himself, we see a lot of chains, collars and being tied up. Is Jaejoong into S&M? Or are the chains representative of SM Entertainment chains? Does that mean SM Entertainment was into S&M? With funny jokes aside. It seems this is an outcry telling the world that he's broke free of the chains of the idol entertainment and has allowed himself to express what he wants to truly create. I think it's time to explain how the k-pop industry works. Piece by piece in the next few posts. In the meantime enjoy the angst of Jaejoong.

How should I describe myself? Should I go into a long rant about me and what I like? Or is a list easier for your eyes? I think a small paragraph should do.

Music is my passion with modern Asian music, such as k-pop, j-pop and j-rock etc., writing is my joy and photography is my growing love. Food is the best way to socialize and fashion is my way to know that I put my shirt on correctly.
