Learning Curve

Last weekend I had a nice shock back to reality how much I should be working on the side passion I have for photography. My first cosplay gathering and I will have to admit I was dead scared of interacting with anyone. Dead scared. I recall my best friend literally pushing me into the crowd or towards other photographers that were there. Why all the fear? It's the huge learning curve that I have not indulge myself in. Yes, I have been taking photos for tentatively for a year now but stepping into the field of niche and seeing other people with their gear that are more upgraded than mine feels intimidating. Let's not forget the fact I have to communicate with people I have never met and not sure if the photos I take will be good to be put in a portfolio.

Okay I'm being hard on myself but in doing so I did learn new things about my own photography. One, trust my own instinct in regards to the fact if I don't like something to branch out on my own and do my own thing. Two, limit myself to a few photoshoots that I will dedicate my skills to rather than a pose and stand in one place like a studio. I forgot that's not what I'm about. Candid natural photos showing expression. I forgot my voice and art that day. Three, be more confident in talking to people and get to know them and allow them to get to know me. They don't bite. Really all the cosplayers and photographers at the gathering were really warm and welcoming. I want to do this again. And lastly, I have a long way to go in post processing. I really experimented with the colors and contrast in the photos. So bear with me, I enjoyed experiment and that was my personal goal. I will improve. Thanks Cosplay Brigade for allowing me to come and being open with my introverted self.
